Scouting Fellowship at Blackstone

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

The grounds of Blackstone Conference and Retreat Center were alive as over 800 youth and leaders attended the Virginia United Methodist Men’s Scouting Fellowship. Those attending were given the opportunity to work on projects that lead to rank advancement, while camping and participating in traditional scouting games and activities in the outdoors of Southside Virginia. It was exciting to have them at Blackstone!

Virginia United Methodist Women Celebrated

 The Virginia United Methodist Women’s 39th Annual Meeting was held at VUMAC: Blackstone Conference andRetreatCenter on October 29 and 30, 2011.

While at Blackstone, Executive Director Sam McCracken presented UMW President Olivia Hinton with a resolution from the VUMAC Board of Directors commending the VAUMW for their commitment, generosity and timeless support of theAssemblyCenterincluding their “Dimes and Dollars” program.

Blackstone: The Virginia United Methodist Assembly Center is grateful and committed to its roots in the United Methodist Conference. These roots have provided a strong foundation of support and strength for over 115 years and it is our sincere hope that this foundation will only strengthen in years ahead.

 

Our future is strong; however it has become clear that growth for the future is only possible if your Assembly Center casts its net for attendance to a wider market. Thanks to your generous support we survived last year’s financial distress, but in order not to return there, it is essential that we become more widely used, thereby creating a stronger business.

ARMS Retreat Follow-up

The Association of Retired Ministers and Spouses met at Blackstone Conference andRetreatCenter, October 5 – 6.  The purpose of ARMS (including widows, widowers, deacons in full connection, diaconal ministers and local pastors) of the Virginia Conference of the UM Church is to provide a voice and fellowship while maintaining a vital connection with the Conference.

This year’s Retreat provided opportunities for fellowship, worship and growth in areas of mind, body and spirit.
